Prisoners’ Rights Clinic invites you to join us in the fight for human rights — your rights — as we work together to build a more just and equitable system for all.

Founded in 2022 by renowned jailhouse lawyers Askari Danso Lumumba and Hassan Shabazz, Prisoners’ Rights Clinic (PRC) brings over 50 years of combined experience fighting for justice and freedom for incarcerated individuals.

Askari Lumumba, Founder of PRC and one of the most influential political prisoners within the Virginia Department of Corrections, is widely respected for his unwavering stance on human rights and his transformative impact on legal and political consciousness inside VADOC.

At the heart of PRC’s growth and strategic direction is Marva Austin, President of Prisoners’ Rights Clinic. An outspoken advocate, organizer, and strategist with extensive experience in the federal system, she strengthens PRC’s mission, operational structure, and nationwide reach. Her leadership ensures PRC remains community-centered, justice-driven, and firmly aligned with the constitutional protections of incarcerated individuals.

Hassan Shabazz, a nationally recognized jailhouse lawyer with over two decades of litigation and legal-education experience, serves as Executive Director. After serving more than 23 years and flattening his sentence, he brings unmatched legal insight and a deep commitment to empowering incarcerated people through procedural education, advocacy, and legal support.

Together, PRC provides comprehensive paralegal services, legal advocacy, and community education to end systemic injustice and protect the constitutional rights of those behind bars.
