Prisoners’ Rights Clinic invites you to join us in the fight for human rights — your rights — as we work together to build a more just and equitable system for all.
Founded in 2022 by renowned jailhouse lawyers Askari Danso Lumumba and Hassan Shabazz, Prisoners’ Rights Clinic (PRC) brings over 50 years of combined experience fighting for justice and freedom for the incarcerated. Following his release from the Virginia Department of Corrections after more than 23 years, Hassan—one of the most knowledgeable jailhouse lawyers in the nation—now serves as PRC President, Lead Advocate, and Certified Paralegal.
Askari Lumumba, known for his unwavering political stance on human rights inside the Virginia Department of Corrections, serves as Vice President of PRC. As a political prisoner, he has driven significant change within VADOC, inspiring countless others to stand up for their rights.
Strengthening the team is Marva Austin, who, as Executive Director, brings her skills as an outspoken advocate and experienced organizer in the federal system to build a powerful organization that continues to stand in solidarity with incarcerated individuals across the nation.
PRC provides comprehensive paralegal services, legal advocacy, and community education to end systemic injustice and protect the constitutional rights of those behind bars.
